Cambridge shows real hospitality at its Intermediate tournament

barbara and Jenny

It was quite something see 19 our club rooms full to play the last of the Intermediate League today.  We welcomed 38 pairs from 12 other clubs. One car load came from Hawera and new Plymouth just for the day! What an effort!

And there was some success for Cambridge too! Jenny Oxley and Barbara Read got off to a stupendous start and won the EW morning session prize.

Our new Regional Bridge Mate, Eunice Eccles, won the best Junior-Intermediate pairing with Malcolm Kirkby from Te Aroha. An excellent result for them.

Overall Karen Payne and Kim Grounds came 4th after 50% in the morning and 61% in the afternoon winning them a prize envelope.  Congratulations to them!

Just missing out on the prizes were Matt and Saty who came 5th.

Thank you to Mike Neels who scored and Nick Whitten who directed; the room had a lovely atmosphere in it from the get go.

A huge thank you to all our members who generously donated to the raffle and food supplies today. Wow what a feast to behold!!

We finished the day off with Anna Kalma of the Waikato Bays Committee (supported by Mike Neels and Jan Spaans) handing out the Intermediate League 2017 prize money down to 10th place.  The results came out with impressive speed. The clear winners were Carol Cullen and Mike Nicholson from Mount Maunganui.  Well played them!

Jane is teaching Nesting pairs again in 2018 so that is another great reason to play the Intermediate League next year to practice what you learn. I am rooting for some Cambridge success next year; it is about time we had some Cambridge names featuring on the cup again!!
