Congress round up of Cambridge successes

The 2018 NZ Bridge congress held in Hamilton is over! There was a lot of bridge played over the last week and Cambridge members were seen at the event throughout the week.

Congratulations to everyone who simply took part. Good on you for just pitching up for the experience. It can be quite nerve wracking entering such a large room of bridge enthusiasts and I admire anyone who just signs up to play.  And once there, you realise that it is just the same game of bridge but with some new faces to play against.

Eunice played the whole event and she finished on a high in 4th place with Malcolm Kirkby in the Intermediate Swiss giving her a creditable 4A points.

Jane and Di had two wins of the week.  First they bounced back in the teams event - along with team mates Ed and Jena- finishing with two huge wins. As Jane said, "Size matters!" and that resulted them in collecting a prize envelope each for the best result in the combined rating point section within the field.  ie they were the best of the similar experienced teams.  Then at the end of the week finished 6th in the Restricted Open Swiss pairs earning them 7A points.

We should not forget Michael toiling away with the big kids in the Open section.  He played with Ella and teamed up with Ian and Lynette and their team finished 17th - just missing out on playing in the teams round of 16. This was a huge achievement in that field of 108 teams. He earned around 28A points through the week.

Lynette and Ian also had a great week finishing with over 33A points each.

I am sure there were other successes and I would love to add them to this page if want to let me know about them.
