Newsletter from Ian Moore, Club Captain

Club Captain’s Newsletter 16 September

It’s time for an update on the Club’s activities for the year, starrting in June.

Fairlands Trophy

We travelled to Te Awamutu to play the Fairlands trophy and were very pleased to retain this trophy. Well done to the 12 pairs who represented our Club.

Battle of the Bridges

This was a successful evening with over $600 being donated to the Blue Light Project run by the Cambridge Police. It provides leadership courses for the youth of Waipa.

Club Championships

The Monday evening club championship was very closely contested.  The final night saw Pam and Ian Moore winning the Championship with Clare Coles and Kevin Whyte coming a close second.  The best Restricted pair was Sue Aitken and Kim Grounds

The Thursday Championship winners were Allison Smith and Kevin Whyte followed by Pam and Ian Moore.  The best Restricted pair was Vicki Jacobsen and Ayoka Imahashi

COVID

Over the last few months there have been a couple of outbreaks of Covid at the Cambridge Bridge club

The most recent one seems to be lessening, but players need to be very vigilant if they have colds or coughs. Please do not come to the Bridge Club if you are feeling unwell.

2024 Committee

There are a couple of vacancies for next year's committee.  If you would like to contribute to the Club by serving on the committee and have time and any of the varied skils required we would appreciate you speaking to either Paul or Ian as soon as possible. Please don't feel shy about speaking up.

NZ Bridge Congress

Next week is the New Zealand Bridge Congress in Tauranga and we wish all the players from our club who are attending the very best of luc and enjoyment.

Cambridge Intermediate Tournament Sunday 15th October

We have many strong intermediate and junior players in our club and encourage you all to enter our tournament.

We also need helpers and people to serve provide food. Please see Barbara or Allison Vince if you’re able to help in this way.

WhatsApp

This has been a success in helping members find partners and and updating members of upcoming events and announcements from the Club Captain or President  It has also been used for great social chats from members.

To ensure members who wish to find partners and announcements don't get lost in the social chat there will be some minor changes to this initiative  It will soon separate the business of the Bridge club from the social aspect of the Bridge club.

Thanks to Nandy for her initiative in suggesting the use of WhatsApp, setting it up and now in modiying it during this week.

Enjoy your Bridge
