Blue Light Donation
Blue Light - a police unit working with Cambridge youth - was pleased to receive $800 from us in August. This was the club's annual donation to a worthy charity. Poppy Taylor, a Year 9 student at Cambridge High, was selected to go on the Blue Light Water Voyage. Poppy writes: Hey Mr Kuijipers and the Cambridge Blue Light team,I just want to say a huge big thank you for giving me the opportunity to go on the Steinlager 2 for a week. It was a truly amazing experience, and I have developed a love for sailing and everything involved. I loved being out on the water and then going to see all the different islands. Everything we did was so fun, and by the time I got back on land, I had gotten used to the swaying of the boat beneath me, so I got a bit land sick! Thank you so much for choosing me for this breathtaking experience. It is definitely one of the best things that I have ever done! |
Some things that I have gained from the trip are:
- How to grind, and that you have to, to get her moving
- How to Navigate (I was Navigator for two days)
- How to Jive and Tack
- Sailing is AWESOME
- To appreciate the simple things in life like: A shower, a flush toilet and a comfy bed
- That morning swims at 6:45 am are a Highlight and a Lowlight
- How to keep her on a Lean when I am on Helm
- Being part of a team is the way to go on a boat
- When we were on sailing how to instruct everyone what was going on
I am so grateful to be chosen for this trip. I am now in love with sailing, and am going to be doing more of it in the future, and may go into it one day! I have made great friends and have met some amazing people, who basically became my second family. I thought that I might attach a few pictures from the voyage!
Super big Thank you,
Poppy Taylor
