Spring Celebration

The mid year social event is advertised in the book as a lunch before play but as we weren't able to do that the committee decided that to combine the lunch with the dinner normally held with the AGM in a celebratory dinner on 23rd of September. It's SPRING! Covid is (hopefully) behind us. Table numbers are a-building steadily. We're BACK!! The club has enough in reserves to fund a dinner for members ($10 surcharge for hangers-on). Drinkies from 6pm followed by a sumptuous repast with all the trimmings courtesy of Mary Casey and her staff of hundreds.

Dee Harris

Sadly our Club must farewell Dee Harris.  She has been unwell for some time and died on Thursday at home with family.   Dee’s compromised immune system along with Covid. meant that Dee had played little Club Bridge over the past two years but until that time she was a regular player on Thursday afternoons and I know all who played with her enjoyed her delightful sense of humour and skilful card play.

Dee grew up in Cambridge and was even known to have babysat Joan and Colin McHarg’s children while attending Cambridge High.

Barbara Smythe

It is with great sorrow I inform you of the death of Barbara Smythe.

Barbara had not been well for the last few weeks but her last game of Bridge on Wednesday night was superb resulting in a 76% win with her partner and friend Eileen.

She was a keen sportswoman; passionate about golf and tennis and she achieved a great deal of success in both of these . She often spent the night watching tennis tournaments.

Barbara taught at Karapiro school for many years before retirement.

Battle of the Bridges

Come along next Monday night to support your side of the mighty Waikato in our inaugural Battle of the Bridges. All members are welcome - partner or not. There will be some senior members just waiting to team up with you. It will be a fun evening with all table money plus any donations going to support the Salvation Army. Bring a plate of your favourite deliciousness for a pot-luck supper. We will play the same format as is used in the Fairlands Trophy - Team Cambridge vs Team Leamington. Left Bank vs Right Bank. Should be a memorable evening.

Club Re-Opens

The committee meeting last Thursday determined it no longer necessary to continue the online programme. We will return to face-to-face bridge as from Monday 15-Aug. It's business as usual.

Cambridge Sixes Another HUGE Success

It's all over for another year. Cambridge turned on the usual Best Tournament in the Country last Saturday. Indeed - with the extremely generous sample packs from our sponsor AFT Pharmaceuticals this event must surely be the only one ever to have paid everyone to attend! A big thank you to Irenee for organising such a marvellous windfall.
