Margaret MacKay - 95 and First East-West

Margaret MacKay

We all enjoyed having Margaret back at Bridge tonight and helping her celebrate her 95th birthday (actual date 1 October).  Until last year Margaret played Monday, Wednesday and Thursday most weeks so it was wonderful to see her back at the club tonight and I was privileged to play with her.

Margaret was awarded a Club Service Award in 2014 in recognition of her wonderful contribution to our Club.  Having come from Tauranga, Margaret was aware of the wonderful contribution a Club Captain can make and, at her instigation, Cambridge introduced this position. Michael and Jane, jointly, became our first Club Captains and now Clare continues doing a wonderful job in this role.  Margaret was also responsible for starting and running our Friday morning sessions which she ran until a couple of years ago.  As a new beginner I learnt a lot from this generous woman including loser count, other methods of bidding besides basic ACOL, always to hold my pen during the bidding process and to ensure the board stayed in the middle of the table during play, and much more.

Thank you Margaret for being the person you are and sharing so much with us.
