Cambridge Sixes - information for those who have not been previously

We are very excited that the 2019 Cambridge Sixes - the largest one day bridge event in NZ- is nearly upon us on Saturday 10 August.

What do you need to know?

The event is held at the Don Rowlands centre by Lake Karapiro. It is lovely! Try and be there by around 9am as play starts at 9.30 and it takes time to get settled in.

On arrival you will have one member check your team in as all present and be given your home table number.  Your home table is where you return to after each round of bridge to compare notes, play trivia and eat lunch  Please note that playing table numbers are DIFFERENT to your home table / team number.

There are amazing raffle prizes so please do try and support the event by purchasing some raffle tickets!

You will feel out of place if you are not dressed up in something! A photographer is there to take a team photo of you in the foyer. Do take advantage of this before play starts. A link will be sent to you so you can see the photos. All at no cost to you! Spot any familiar faces among 100 Acre Wood?

The team of six comprises 2 juniors, 2 intermediates and 2 open players. The juniors play 7 board Swiss Pair matches against other juniors. The intermediates play 8 board matches against intermediates and the open players ditto. Juniors will be asked to tell the Bridgemate that they did not play (DNP) boards 8,16 and 24 (instructions on table).

There are 6 rounds of Swiss Pair matches. The aim in Swiss Pairs is do better than the room average.  If there is game available, you want to bid and make game. Or slam.

There is a trivia quiz between rounds 1&2, 2&3, 4&5 and 5&6.  Questions are circulated on paper to your home table and you complete these as best you can. Switch your answers with a neighbouring table to mark the score and hand sheet in with your team name and number clearly marked if you want to be In to win!

Lunch is provided between rounds 3 and 4.  Please nominate one member of your team to go to the kitchen to collect your lunch platter. There is plenty of food also provided for in between rounds. Tea and instant coffee is also on tap or there is the nearby cafe to purchase real coffee from.  Water urns are there and we encourage players to keep hold of their glass for the day or to bring a water bottle.

We also have some spot prizes throughout the day.

And there is a bar too!

We should be finished by around 5pm. We ask teams to stay for prizegiving. And if you are a Cambridge member, we do ask you to stay behind afterwards to help clear up if at all possible.

I thought these BridgeMates were rather inspiring!
