The Cambridge Sixes

yt

Our very successful annual major tournament was held at the Don Rowlands Centre last Saturday which was enjoyed by all.

There were 36 teams of six giving us 54 tables.

Thank you to all club members who made this possible.Your contributions are very much appreciated. The food was delicious and plentiful and all the help given before, during and after the event was outstanding.

There are some particular people to thank;

To our sponsor AFT Pharmaceuticals for their generous support. As well as the financial assistance the company donated many of the spot prizes and the sanitiser on each of the tables.

Clare Coles for finding open players to complete the teams and the enormous amount of work and preparation she carried out to ensure the day ran smoothly.

Di Emms for the fabulous decorations and to Mark for his assistance in getting them into placw.

Kevin Whyte, our treasurer whose job is never-ending.

Micheal Neels, dealer extraordinaire (864 boards for the day).

Deb Robinson and her team of Louise, Theresa, Ailsa, Jan and Margaret in the kitchen. What an amazing job you all did.

Bill Robinson, our floor manager and his team of caddies.

Our photographer Micheal Jeans.

Jan Spaans on his flawless scoring and a major responsibility to bear.

The raffle prizes brought in over $1200 thanks to all your contributions and a super job done by Anne to package them all up and sell all those tickets.

To the 2 Davids (Blewden and Peake) for collecting up tables and equipment to bring out to Karpiro and other partners who chipped in with setting up or dismantling at the end of the day.

Noteworthy results from Saturday:

  • Top Open pair Clare Coles and her partner Hugh McGann. 6th Anna Kalma and Richard Soloman and 7th Lynette Morgan and Ian Bond.
  • 2nd in the Intermediate section were Malcolm Kirkby and Peter Daffurn, 6th Hennie and Chris van Empel and 11th Beth Kingsley and Josie van Weerd.
  • 11th Junior pair were Tony Davies and Steve Hunt who didn’t even know each other before they were thrown together a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic result for Steve especially, who has only been playing bridge for a year. 12th were Sandra Gissing and Sue McKenzie and 14th Michael Chick and Roger Hocking.
  • We had 3 teams in the Top 10 teams. They all had an import or two. Our best team overall was Riverboat Ramblers who came a credible 7th place. This team included Cambridge players Irenee Stewart and Leonie Sentch, Roger Hocking and Michael Chick. In 9th place were The Bluebottlers including Anna Kalma, Malcolm Kirkby, Peter Daffurn and Bill Bailey. In 10th place were Stopgoologists Michael Neels, Hennie and Chris, Tony and Steve.
