Cambridge Intermediate Tournament - 20th October
Calling all Juniors and Intermediate pairs to support our Intermediate Tournament. Date- Saturday 20th October
New format for WhatsApp
The Cambridge Bridge Club WhatsApp has been re-organised so its members automatically receive announcements and partnership requests. You may then join other groups that you feel are relevant to you. Only administrators can post messages on Announcements but all members can post on other groups. Thank you Nandy for all your work revamping the app.
Stop Cards
You are no longer required to use a stop card or tap the table when you make a jump during the bidding. However, it is the responsibility of the next player to wait for 8 counts before bidding.
NZ BRIDGE Congress
Good luck to all the players attending Congress this year- we will be watching expectantly for your brilliant results.
2025 Programme
This year we have looked at events in all sessions and have made some small changes which reflect the majority of opinions from the surveys.
Monday Morning - We have added another handicap event for July as the daytime learners will join this session with their buddies in early June.
Monday Evening - The two individual events will remain as they help players extend their partnership combinations and one is required for the Individual championship. Catch a Rising Star event- unsurprisingly the majority of members wanted this to continue to build up our attendees on Monday night. This will be a restricted event and the full criteria will be published later. In the main we will expect players to find a partner from other sessions if possible. Team events -players did not want extra teams events so we will continue with just the Multi Grade Teams and Property Brokers Teams -both have been very well supported in 2024. Monday Night Championship Pairs -surprisingly the option to play one night a month for 6 evenings won by a clear majority. It will be on the last Monday of the month from March to August. Intermediate Individual Championship- this 4 night event will take place in May when the Open Players are at Quilty Teams in Matamata.
Wednesday Evening This will remain the same in terms of programming but a combination pair of an Open and Intermediate player will be strongly discouraged. We will encourage regular Wednesday evening players to partner 2024 newbies even for one event and hopefully when learners are integrated into club sessions in May, members will buddy them for the Welcome New Players three night event. Monday night players will also join this event to help and encourage these new players.
Thursday Morning This session is being well supported and will remain if novices and newbies are finding it valuable. Pam and Ian Moore run the session of 4-5 tables but if any members want to come along to help they are most welcome. NB -ACOL is the system we teach so it is helpful to be familiar with it.
Thursday Afternoon The main change to this session is that in every event, throughout the year, there is now a prize for first pair on Handicap and a prize for first pair on Raw score. However, you can’t win both prizes. Later in the year there is an event where you play with a member that you have not played with at the club before.
