Cambridge Basks in Reflected Glory

It was announced at Congress just finished that Richard Solomon, who plays fairly often on Monday nights, has moved beyond Gold Grand Master to Emerald Grand Master. That makes four Emerald GM's in NZ - plus one Platinum. To save you the trouble of looking it up - it's 6000 total points, of which 4000 must be A points. That's a power of bridge! We can be proud to have contributed as Richard won 0.32 A's at our recent Sixes. One has been conscious of Richards' presence on the bridge scene for over 40 years. When there used to be a glossy pocket-sized bi-monthly magazine, Richard was the editor, as well as often rating a mention. He has represented New Zealand overseas and is about to head off to Buenos Aires to fly our flag at the World Championship . Until his retirement last year Richard was one of only two paid employees of NZB in which capacity he organised the annual Congress and NZ-Wide Pairs (still doing that job) and even now contributes daily articles to the website.

A passive Full member of our club, many will have wondered who Herman Yuan is. Herman owns the Cambrian Lodge Motel - a regular sponsor of one of our series. Herman has been a generous supporter over the years, donating cash sponsorship for the Sixes and accommodating its directors Murray and Caroline Wiggins for free. Herman and his partner Andrew Liu were so far ahead after the penultimate match of Congress's NZ Open Swiss Pairs that they needn't even have bothered turning up for the last round. They couldn't be caught by even a 20-0 loss! Herman won 0.40 A points at the Sixes! Great going Herman - we've trained you well!
