Club Captain's Christmas Newsletter

Club Captain’s Christmas Newsletter

The 2022 bridge year has come to an end and it was particularly pleasing to see the playing numbers gradually increase after several setbacks due to Covid.

A special thanks to our retiring president, Allison Vince, who has helped us navigate through these challenging times and welcome to Paul Phillips our new President.

Opening night of 2023 is Wednesday 11th January, a draw for partners evening, where all members are encouraged to attend.

The committee has agreed to a few changes for 2023 recommended by the playing committee:-

1) Any session where there are less than 5 tables, masterpoints will be awarded but not momentary prizes

2) Over 70% and highest scores for the year will only count if 5 or more tables play in the session

3) Grand and small slams will count regardless of table numbers

There are other small changes which are outlined in the programme booklet for 2023.  As a reminder take time to read the Competition Rules in the Programme Book.

Recently, we enjoyed three Christmas themed evenings run by Clare Coles. It was particularly pleasing to see the new players who only completed the lessons this year feature in the results and playing very confidently.

There is a new incentive for non-open players to participate in the championship pairs on Monday evening and Thursday afternoon. There will be a club captain’s prize of $50 to the top non-open pair in each of these events. The number of members playing in these two events has been disappointing over the past two years so hopefully this encouragement will increase the size of the field.

Finally a few reminders:-
1) Always be kind to your partner
2) Congratulate the opposition when they do well
3) Respect our directors-they are all volunteers –we have 5 new directors who have been training and studying after the holiday period
4) Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy and put the dates of improver lessons in your diary today

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all our members and the committee look forward to seeing you in 2023
