It was wonderful to be able to congratulate Cambridge players on the stage yesterday.  After a middling morning, Don and Irenee found their feet and came romping home in second place.  Well done to them!

A reminder that the Karapiro dam is shut so you need to cross the river in Cambridge if travelling from Auckland direction or at Horahora travelling from the South.

A big thank you to all the people who helped organise and support this big event on Sunday 22 June. Ian and Pam organised venue, helpers and players. Jan did an amazing job scoring, in spite of my best effort to cause confusion at the start putting teams in the wrong place! Nick Saunders outdid himself directing a large room patiently and kindly.  Beth did all the dealing of the multiple boards. Ian T and Bill were willing caddies. And special thanks to our new learner members who did a great job helping in the kitchen and to those members who ensured no player went hungry.

back to Cambridge club rooms thanks to some great play by Cambridge club members - and not necessarily who you would pick to do well! The top seven pairs were made up of Cambridge members, headed by Pam Moore and Allison Smith, Mathew and Karen, Beth and Josie.  Also noteworthy is return learner Bernice Q and Tony finishing 6th with nearly 60%. Well done indeed to Cambridge’s Kate McFadyen and John Mills who came third in Rotorua Open on Saturday 14th June.  This was a big achievement against some big guns! Also to be congratulated are Anna Kalma and Richard Solomon who took second place. Two great results!

Well done to Josie, who achieved an average of nearly 60% over the four weeks in May that comprised the intermediate championship. Josie has this year taken over the evening bridge learner classes and so she has been spending many hours at the club these last few months!  It isn’t easy heading into the final session and hanging on to the lead but she kept her cool! And I am sure she is grateful to her four partners Don Wilson, Margaret, Sue Aitken and Vicki..

Congratulations to Sue and Steve who not only were the best non-open pair but came second overall at the Cambridge WAPS.  They were consistently good all day coming third both sessions with 60.4% and 58.59%.

Cambridge Bridge Club players featured very well in the Katikati Intermediate tournament on Sunday. Nandy Costa and Denise Wybrow won a session and came third overall in fine style averaging 59% in a large field of 22 tables. Don Macpherson and Irenee Stewart came third in a session also. 
 

The three night Quilty Tray in Matatata was well supported by Cambridge players -well done to the Whyte Team who came third overall. Kevin Whyte, John Mills, Kate McFadyen, Gwyn Lobb and Clare Coles.

Supported online play is like having a friend at the table, offering support whenever you need it. Imagine it’s like using Zoom; you can see and talk to each other while playing cards, and with an experienced player available to offer advice or answer questions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Congratulations to The Old Duffers who not only won the coveted David’s Emporium team dress-up (despite using some dodgy voting tactics that almost got them disqualified) but also held on to their lead and won this year’s Back to the future teams event.  There were five teams in contention for the final three rounds but The Old Duffers held on with the Clowns coming second and Bad Aass third. It was a fun competition; thank you to all the participants who made it that way.
