Only if they wish to be able to Skype Jane during their session do they need to run it at this time when they can Skype between 8pm and 9pm on the day of broadcast only.  Skype address:  jane.stearns64  Skype calls only accepted from players from NZB affiliated clubs who have registered their group prior to course commencement.

Preparation for Seminar 4

1.  Make up boards for the seminar in advance.   .bri files for dealing machines are attached below, hand records attached if you are making up by hand.

2.  Print off enough seminar notes for all attendees.  They will be using these during the session.

3.  Print off the bidding notes and insert the relevant notes behind the relevant board number.

4.  Print off the hand records and insert the small record behind the relevant board number with the bidding notes.

5.  Print off the Contract Notes - place these behind the board but VISIBLE upon turning the board over.

6.  Print off additional handout on Lavinthal for attendees.

7.  Ensure your venue has wifi and the equipment to play a YouTube video to students.

8.  Much of these deals depend upon the opening lead - therefore no matter where the auction should conclude - play the contract shown on the back of the  board regardless of where the players wound up in their own auction.  The killer lead must come from the correct player on opening lead.

You do not need to set up any form of scoring.  Students are welcome to use their seminar notes throughout the practical session.

Seminar 4

  1. Watch Seminar 4 via the YouTube Video
  2. Bid the boards.  When the auction has finished - STOP!!
  3. Turn over the board and play the contract on the back of the board.  Ensure correct player plays hand and adjust regardless to correct declarer and contract.
  4. Play the boards with lead coming from correct player.
  5. After each board, read the bidding notes on the back of the board and discuss.  Ensure you replace the bidding notes in the back of the board for the next group to view.  Ensure the contract note is replaced visible for the next group.
  6. Reassure declarers in this seminar not to become despondent - if the correct defence is found they are doomed.
  7. Ensure declarers making contracts are not gloaters!  It means the defence has not achieved its potential - encourage the foursomes to review how the defence should have taken place.
