Cambridge Does Well at Taupo

The Taupo club tried something a little different in their Kefi Cafe-sponsored event on 4-Oct - a Restricted 8B Swiss Pairs in which two Opens were not permitted to play together. Swiss Pairs is becoming rather popular these days - usually as a source of fractional A points for the less-than-famous in the Open format. Another innovation will become available to clubs next year - 3A Open Restricted events will come onto the calendar.

Steve Hunt and Sue Keating - winners of Matamata Intermediate Tournament on Sunday

🏆 That’s a stellar showing from Steve Hunt and Sue Keating! Winning both the morning and afternoon sessions and taking the overall title at the Matamata Intermediate Bridge Tournament is no small feat. Their consistency across the day was extremely impressive.

👏 Hats off as well to Nandy Costa and Denise Whybrow for clinching 4th overall—top-tier placement in a competitive field.

Well played them!

Cambridge Sixes Results Revised

On behalf of Cambridge Bridge club, I am extremely sorry that we are announcing a change in the results of the Cambridge Sixes.  This is the first time in its history that I can recall this has been necessary.  The adjustment has occurred due to the players at one table sitting in the wrong directions for the first round of the day.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the 2025 Cambridge Sixes

Whether you helped for all of the day, part of the day, donated generously to the raffle, baked, made savouries, helped setup or pack up, assisted with the planning of the event or played- or all of the above- the committee wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU.  Without the generosity of the club members, the event would be a shadow of its amazing self.  There is simply no other tournament like it in terms of its offerings: great bridge, fabulous food all day, tantalising trivia, unbeatable raffle and dastardly dressup!

Waikato Interclub teams

A big thank you to all the people who helped organise and support this big event on Sunday 22 June. Ian and Pam organised venue, helpers and players. Jan did an amazing job scoring, in spite of my best effort to cause confusion at the start putting teams in the wrong place! Nick Saunders outdid himself directing a large room patiently and kindly.  Beth did all the dealing of the multiple boards. Ian T and Bill were willing caddies. And special thanks to our new learner members who did a great job helping in the kitchen and to those members who ensured no player went hungry.
