Come Give Friday Nights A Go!!

Our regular Friday night sessions - from 6 to 8pm - have been morphing slowly from week to week. We reckon we're settling into a pretty neat pattern lately. To date:

People turn up over a 20-minute time period
Contribution for pizza & icecream has been voluntary - the club has been making up the difference
We don’t always have full tables - not a bad thing as it gets rather social when dummys shift to a table that's short
Everybody seems comfortable with the cards being hand-dealt
Everybody feels they learn a lot from all the chat and guidance - warm fuzzies of appreciation

However ... at its latest meeting the committee there was a feeling that it’s time this session should be self-funding. To date the club has reimbursed expenses of $140.  These merely means we'll be morphing a bit more as The Faithful certainly want the session to continue

  • Attendees will pay $5 through their Compa$$ account … (sorry no discount for pizza/icecream not consumed)
  • .. (hey - Auckland BC table fees are $9 a session with NO pizza/icecream!)
  • .. (still good value)
  • We morph more towards English bridge-club style of bridge …
  • … this accommodates several of the above
    • It doesn’t matter what time people arrive or leave (Dave can see the end of The Chase)
    • Spare wheels can kibbitz for a while (= look on and LEARN .. comment and discussion welcomed)
    • Make yourself a coffee – maybe someone will bake a cake?
    • Kibbitzers get to cut in to a table after every few hands
    • Non-members can attend .. even if to only see what the game is about

That's the current form and it's a lot of FUN!! The atmosphere is very much what a club should feel like. People gathered together talking and laughing over a common interest. Come along and give it a try - all welcome.
