Cambridge Does Well at Taupo

The Taupo club tried something a little different in their Kefi Cafe-sponsored event on 4-Oct - a Restricted 8B Swiss Pairs in which two Opens were not permitted to play together. Swiss Pairs is becoming rather popular these days - usually as a source of fractional A points for the less-than-famous in the Open format. Another innovation will become available to clubs next year - 3A Open Restricted events will come onto the calendar. With Life Master ranks (over 250 A points) and above being excluded the door will open to lower grades to have a better shot at winning top places in A-point tournaments

On the day Kate McFadyen and Malcolm Kirkby came second overall while Jo Griffiths and Irene Stewart took out second prize in the Intermediate-Intermediate section. Michael Neels playing with Judith Howard of Matamata came sixth just ahead of Jo and Irenee. Coverage with pictures is given on the Taupo home page
