Heroic Performances
Cambridge players did really well in our own Intermediate tournament on Sunday. Usually we're FHB (Family Hang Back) at these events .. politely letting the guests have all the top placings but something seems to have changed:
Cambridge players did really well in our own Intermediate tournament on Sunday. Usually we're FHB (Family Hang Back) at these events .. politely letting the guests have all the top placings but something seems to have changed:
1. All players have their own XG rating
2. XGs are updated every week in a 3-hour process that combines up the week's results with your history over the last 2000 boards
3. Your partner has an XG rating too
4. The average of your XGs is the "strength" of your partnership
5. Your strength is compared to the average of your opponents' strengths
6. The difference tells us whether you were a couple of sharks or a pair of minnows in that session
Club Captain’s Newsletter 16 September
It’s time for an update on the Club’s activities for the year, starrting in June.
Fairlands Trophy
We travelled to Te Awamutu to play the Fairlands trophy and were very pleased to retain this trophy. Well done to the 12 pairs who represented our Club.
Battle of the Bridges
This was a successful evening with over $600 being donated to the Blue Light Project run by the Cambridge Police. It provides leadership courses for the youth of Waipa.
Well done Allison (Smith) and Kevin, winners of the 2023 Thursday Championship pairs with an average of 65.64, followed by Pam and Ian on 62.18.
With 34 teams all arriving on time the annual Sixes tournament was off to a great 'Sporting' start on a beautiful day at the Sir Don Rowland Centre, Lake Karapiro.
After Team photos were taken (thanks to Bruce and Dawn Hancock) all attendees were welcomed by our President Paul Phillips (his first Sixes - both to play and attend).
Directors Caroline and Murray Wiggins wheeled in from Hawkes Bay in their cycling gear.

Well done to Kim and Sue (Aitken) who were the top non-open pair and have won the Club Captain's award.
On Thursday players joined in sharing Allison Smith's special Birthday with a cake. Allison's daughter had also sent her some lovely flowers
