Tauranga and Cambridge will be rowing/sailing to the start line this Wednesday 14 August at 7pm.
As in the America's Cup, the rules of engagement have changed this year.
Fabulous achievement for the Deck Raters finishing 6th overall.
Their result was not only helped by Chris and Hennie coming 1st in the juniors but by the stellar effort by Karen Payne and Margaret Fitzgerald in the Intermediate section. They leapfrogged from 10th to 4th place in the final round, also therefore securing a treasured prize envelope, This meant that the team (Deck Raters) snuck in to the overall team prize winnings by a mere 0.3 total VP count. It was wonderful seeing a Cambridge team sneak in to the top six at our own Cambridge Sixes.
Huge congratulations to Chris and Hennie who had five out of six wins, importantly saving two good wins to the last couple of rounds securing a first place finish when it counted!
Really well done to them. They are a great partnership both at and away from the bridge table and we are lucky to have them as Cambridge Club members.
Thank you to the many members who helped in so many different ways to make the Cambridge Sixes such a fabulous event for the 252 players making up 42 teams.
Our club members (and some of their partners too) were generous in so many ways:
- giving their time to help organise the event
- providing delicious food to eat throughout the day
- finding gifts for the raffle
- buying and wrapping spot prizes
- donating towards the prizes
- making the amazing decorations
- helping to set up and clear up
Congratulations to Herman, who along with Yuzhong, won the 2019 WAPS with a convincing 6 point average lead. In second place came Anna Kalma with her partner Noel Grigg from Matamata. Great play from them!
There were 19 pairs eligible for a placing at the last round and Kevin/Clare and Jane/Di came 5th and 6th respectively so not a bad turn out for Cambridge!
We are very excited that the 2019 Cambridge Sixes - the largest one day bridge event in NZ- is nearly upon us on Saturday 10 August.
What do you need to know?
The event is held at the Don Rowlands centre by Lake Karapiro. It is lovely! Try and be there by around 9am as play starts at 9.30 and it takes time to get settled in.
Congratulations to Sandra and Michael who won the Cambridge Junior restricted, whichever way you looked at it - handicapped or not handicapped. They had a fabulous round.
Cambridge is hosting its annual Junior restricted this Sunday 28 July. Warm up on some tasty soup and a bun at midday before enjoying some fun bridge at 1pm.
At least one in the partnership MUST BE JUNIOR. There are prizes for the best:
Junior-Junior pairing
Junior- Intermediate pairing
Junior-Open pairing
Best overall score using XG handicap
