Congratulations to all eleven to pass New Zealand Bridges' latest Club Directors - our own Clare Coles and Pam Moore included. The test was the first of a new on-line exam. We are so lucky to have two new qualified directors at our club. What a fabulous achievement. Congratulations Pam and Clare.

Congratulations to "our" Anna Kalma (now very honorary affiliate member of Cambridge), and Karen Martelletti - both of our region - who, along with Sam Coutts of Dunedin and John Skipper of Christchurch have been elected to the Board of NZ Bridge. It was re-election in the case of Karen and John who are current members.

It is with heavy heart I have to report the death of Harry Shields which occurred yesterday afternoon.

Harry was a keen bridge player and supported Cambridge Bridge Club for many many years and his company has been enjoyed by us all.

He lead a very active life here in NZ after being born and spending his youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

There were two winning teams for the 2021 Monday teams!

Finishing with the highest result of 84 VPs was Team Moore comprising Ian and Pam Moore and their team mates, Malcolm and Alison Smith from Hamilton Club.  Congratulations to the fabulous 4!

As the flurry over subs comes to an end we aim to settle into a pattern of weekend updates of your Compa$$ account where we record table-money ins and outs. The last step of that process is refreshing the mycompasss.com website where members can check their transactions and balances for both the current and the preceding months. To do this you'll need to create a login that will allow you to access your own account only. If there's anything you need to comment on you can email both Kevin and Michael from that screen.

... just kidding folks - it's in good hands and well under control. We're looking good with most accounts tanked up ready for 2021. There are a couple of dozen subs still to come in - a reminder that payment is requested by the end of January, please. We are pleased to make a MAJOR MAJOR Announcement here ...

The Thames summer festival was held over the weekend with  very good representation from Cambridge members.

Local participants were Eunice and Malcom, Kay, Irene and Don McPherson, Clare and Kevin, Michael, Kate and Gwyn, Anna, Ian and Lynette, Judith Howard and Lesley Quilty. 

 Michael, who played in a composite team has some success in the final result. Well done .

Welcome to the 2021 bridge year, may it be ever so uninterrupted. Kevin, Vicki, and Michael have been busy ensuring everything is ok with your Compa$$ accounts after the levying of subscriptions for 2021. All members, except those exempt or those who had already paid, should have received a subs invoice in the last week of December. This was followed by a statement of each member's Compa$$ account as at 2-Jan. Allowing that this is a new process - certainly new to our club in the wake of our time with HelloClub - we think it has gone extremely well.

A change of format for us this year.

The AGM and Prizegiving will be on the 7th December at the new time of 7pm.

When you arrive you will be given a complimentary glass of bubbles or juice. We will then have the AGM and short prizegiving( due to Covid.)

After this, dessert and a hot drink will be served and a chance to mingle and mix.

The cost for the evening is $10. We need numbers for catering so please put your name on the clip board at the club room if you can come. Partners welcome.

It's no small honour to reach the final of the annual National Rubber Bridge competition. You must get through four or five matches then the quarter finals and the semis ... it was a long road that ran out on Thursday night. The gods that deal the cards on BBO gave them mostly all to East-West who were Stuart Grant and Tony Quinlivan of Christchurch. It was a bit of a bad dream for our pair who had very little to work with. It took until the 21st board of 30 for them to notch up their first game. Two hands later they had their first rubber.
