PAUL CARPENTER FINISHES AS JUNIOR CHAMPION 2025

Congratulations to Paul who had a cracking night sitting in South seat with partner Meagan, finishing with 64% to finish as Cambridge Junior champion 2025 with an average of 56.57% over the four week series. A worthy runner up was Alan Lowe who was the only contender with four consistent results over 50% every week finishing with an average of 56.14%. 

Commiserations to David Taylor and Diane Brown who were in serious contention but did not find their stride on the final night. However they should be proud to finish respectively in 3rd and 4th places.

The Waikato Area Pairs is a series of five tournaments played in local clubs. There are prizes for each tournament and overall prizes for the series.

Google has pulled the mat from under the way we have been sending the results from our scoring system. Some members have found the results turning up in their Junk Mail folder when their email client thinks it suspicious. If you do find your missing results there regularly then it is usually possible to "white-list" the sender

2025 starts with a roar

Thanks to Property Brokers sponsoring the first night of the year and providing an amazing BBQ, we had over 50 members taking part on the club’s opening night. PB Waikato regional manager, Chris Moore and his wife Teresa were ably assisted by their son, Cooper and sales consultant, Malinda. Their BBQ skills was like watching poetry in motion and loaded table of hamburgers quickly vanished!

Cambridge Christmas elves bring joy to Rotorua

Congratulations to Sue and Els for winning the dress up prize (reported to be $100 this year) and being placed 5th in the stratified Diamond section results at Rotorua’s Christmas tournament. They certainly brought some fun to the event as well as to our club organising the Christmas series. A big thank you to them for making the last official series of the year so entertaining.  A big shout out to our director, Ayako, who has been Santa’s secret helper being a non-playing director, serving us yummy eats and being a magic fairy in the kitchen.

Vicki receives life membership

It was no surprise to many to see Vicki become a Life Member at the conclusion of this year’s AGM. As Paul said, Vicki has been an extremely valued member since she joined as a newbie learner in 2010. Since this time she has supported the lessons, been Club President for five years, done the Programme Book, been the Computer manager as well as helped out in numerous other ways like making her fabulous Victoria sponges to mark special birthdays!

Kim thanks Paul for a great job done the last 2 years.

It was a nice turnout at this year’s AGM.  While Paul thanked the many people who make the club such a success, the Committee - represented by Kim - took its turn to thank Paul for the work Paul has done in his two year stint as President.  Her words were echoed by Bob McQueen who thanked Paul for his strategic leadership in this time and also acknowledged the excellent financial report by Kevin Whyte and ongoing behind the scenes help by Mike Neels.  Again these were sentiments shared by others during the evening.
