The final results of the R E Stowers Championship had a rather interesting pattern - Congratulations to Ian who won the event (64.67) and he was followed by Allison Smith (62.71) then Pam Moore (61.69) and in 4th place Malcolm Smith (58.73).
Today we welcomed 12 pairs from Te Awamutu who braved the weather to come to Cambridge and compete for the Fairlands Trophy, an annual event named after an apple orchard in TA (no longer there) who donated the shield. It was good to see some of older friends but also newer members from the TA club and to have time to chat with them over afternoon tea once play had finished
After playing 24 boards Cambridge members had played well enough to retain the shield.
Congratulations to Michael Neels who has been selected to represent Waikato Bays in the Senior Interprovincial Team.
Michael and his partner Ella Gray played in the trials last weekend and finished in first place, which was an outstanding performance.
We all look forward to following Michael's progress in the IP even later in the year.
Ian Moore, Club Captain
Covid has certainly caused many disruptions to many aspect of our lives, including Bridge.
To get members back into the swing of Bridge Clare and Kate have made changes to the Improver Bridge Lessons to help everyone regain their confidence and enjoyment of Bridge.
Please refer to the attached poster for details (just click on it and it will download).
Congratulations to :
Ian Bond - the winner of the Club championship, followed by Pam Moore then Ian Moore (sorry no picture of Ian)
Martin Steiner - the winner of the Intermediate championship, followed by Irenee Stewart then Verena Steiner.
The Intermediate results required an adjustment for any session played by an Intermediate with an Open player which meant Josie moved to 4th. After the 5 sessions there were 11 eligible Intermediate players to win but in total 18 eligible players had taken part in the series.
Eight tables turned out and were ably directed by Director Nick Cantlon of Te Awamutu. There was just one session set in which all met all during the day. Congratulations to the winners Sara Worth and Judy Burchall all the way from Auckland. Runners-up wereJenny Elgar and Janet Milbank from Whakatane; Mike Everard and Jo Millington came third. Best Cambridge pair were Steve Hunt and Bill Bailey at fourth while Ailsa Henderson and Jan Watts cam sixth.
Great news - Bridge lessons start on Tuesday 17 May at 7pm and run for 10 weeks
